Abstract

Modern flight line engineers are faced with a large variety of sensor configurations. Different types of vehicles, and sometimes even different individual vehicles of the same type, have widely varying sensor loadouts. With current Instrumentation Support Systems (ISSs), each sensor configuration must be manually described to the ISS. This process is tedious, time consuming, and error prone. Nomadics proposes to design and build a Labeling, Interrogation, and Loading System (LILS) that is composed of a Labeler (software that runs on a PocketPC-based PDA and can be used to retrieve, modify, and store TEDS in native IEEE 1451 transducers or in SITEDS), Interrogator (software that runs on 32-bit WindowsT operating systems and is used to retrieve the entire set of TEDS for a given sensor network), and Loader (software that runs on 32-bit WindowsT operating systems and is used to store TMATS-formatted descriptions into non-TMATS-aware ISS systems). Phase I will involve creation of minimal proof-of-concept prototypes of all three components of LILS.
