Abstract

The purpose of this Phase II project is to design, manufacture, test and deliver an innovative rapid Wireless Fire Detection (WFD) system based on a successfully demonstrated Phase I prototype. This Phase II SBIR will produce a highly reliable, rapid response, low-cost, lightweight, wireless Flame Sensor Module (FSM) and Receiver Module (RM) that operate in both future and legacy aircraft environments. The Phase II WFD system incorporates multiple FSM that report both fire detection events and self-test results to the RM which is integrated with a cockpit warning system and the fire extinguishing controller. The heart of the WFD system is the Flame Sensor Module (FSM). The FSM proof of concept developed during the Phase I project has the following features: 1) Detects and reports hydrocarbon flames within 4 ms without false reports. 2) Transmits report wirelessly. 3) It is self powered (battery or other). 4) It is light weight (
