Abstract

Based on the success of the Phase I SBIR, Imperium is proposing this Phase II SBIR to build a small, portable handheld device for composite damage inspection in aircraft structures. The device will be light, battery powered, and won t require a specialist for use. The inspector places the handheld probe up to the target in question and the device generates real time, clean subsurface imagery. This means less aircraft downtime and a better understanding of defects before they result in catastrophic failures. For this program we are collaborating with Boeing and Bell Helicopter, current users of our device. They have agreed to become commercial partners with the device that will result from the Phase II SBIR.
