Abstract

Timely data is critical for decision making to fight the Global War on Terror (GWOT). With the availability of numerous networks and protocols in the market, sharing data among wired and wireless networks securely in real time is complex. Sharing data and voice amongst a network of networks requires robust innovative system that routes Situational Awareness (SA) data, video and voice reliably and securely using the available reach back communications. The proposed system, Situational Awareness For Global Information Grid (SAF-GIG), provides secure and non-secure internetworking capabilities to interconnect/transmit data, video and voice using the available reach back communication devices such as tactical radio, military and commercial cell phone, SATCOM, Ethernet and Expanded Maritime Intercept Operations (EMIO) wireless etc. Some of the system capabilities include: Providing an Internet-based (packet transmission) converter that will accept and route incoming voice, video and data streams in common international formats including tactical radios and cellular phones Meeting security requirements to handle and distribute secure and unsecure but sensitive communications via FIPS-140-2 Layer 2 and/or Type 1 encryption Storage and distribution of voice, video and data via web portals for shore users Trident s approach will ensure flexibility, modularity and use of COTS products.
