Abstract

Universal Display Corporation (UDC) in collaboration with Princeton University is developing organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology for use in inexpensive, low-power color displays. Recently, we developed a new class of proprietary materials based on organic phosphorescence and demonstrated record high luminous efficiency (31 lm/W) phosphorescent OLEDs. These OLEDs are ideally suited for bright, highly efficient backlights. They can be grown on glass, plastic or metal foil substrates, forming sheets of luminescent material that can efficiently couple light to an active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD), simply by laminating the display to the OLED ultra-thin (
