Abstract

This project will result in a realistic specification and development plan for a commercial software product for automated and semi-automated building model extraction from imagery of complex urban environments. These building models, along with features derived from existing GIS or cartographic data, will then be used to construct a detailed 3D visual simulation of the scene. The building extraction capability will be tightly integrated with our current commercial product, Terratools (R). TerraTools is a state-of-the-art simulation database construction system and also contains the basic geospatial data import and export functionality required by such a next-generation data extraction workstation. Our proposal will result in a product where visualizations of complex 3D urban environments can be directly compiled and manipulated using advanced visualization techniques without leaving the overall workstation environment.
