Abstract

This proposed program is directed towards the development of polyoxometalate catalysts for use as agents for the oxidative destruction of chemical warfare agents. The specific technology innovation will rely on the use of novel polyoxometalate materials for the catalytic oxidation of sulfides and other organics when incorporated into skin creams. Regeneration during the life cycle will be achieved using either air or by application of hydrogen peroxide. Such species are anticipated to not pose health and safety problems. Private sector industries to benefit from this technology would include pulp and paper, water purification, waste site remediation, semiconductor, chemicals and pharmaceutical processing, and industries requiring sterilization such as hospitals and biotechnology production facilities. Additionally, the mitigation of the vapors of organic materials is anticipated.
