Abstract

Los Gatos Research proposes to develop a new absorption based technique which allows two-dimensional chemically specific images of flames to be obtained on a rapid timescale. This new approach will allow species selective far-infrared absorption spectra to be obtained for both laminar as well as tubulent flames, in both cases yielding a two-dimensional image in real time. The system can operate continuously with a data update interval of less than one second. The new approach incorporates a unique spectral selection scheme for high resolution scanning of the far-infrared spectral region, which is achieved simply through adjustment of the signal processing electronics.
