We propose the definition and development of a low cost, portable device for highly sensitie, non-invasive spectral measurements and monitoring of hemoglobin and myoglobin oxygenation systes in various tissues, the hemoglobin and myoglobin, respectively, reflect the oxygenation transport to the multi-site surface (arterial) and deep (muscular) tissues. The proposed instrument is based on our patented Digital Array Scanned Interferometer (DASI). The MED-DASI is a highly stable instrument, well suited to remote, autonomous operation. Its characteristics for tissue oxygenati9on measurement applications include: High S/N determination/quantitation of myoglobin and hemoglobin oxygenation state. Multiple sites may be simultaneously measured. Stable, no-moving parts, flexible operation. Protability guaranteed by low power, mass and volume. High detection efficiency for low level species. Insensitive to stray light and environmental variables such as temperature, vibration or pressure.
