Abstract

Groundwater remediation at military and civilian sites is a growing need throughout the U.S. For contaminant streams containing JP4 constituents and chlorinated organics, for example, in-situ bioremediation can sometimes require augmentation, such as that which would be provided by a catalytic decomposition process step. We have developed several candidate catalysts for organics breakdown in soil remediation applications, which might be amenable to use in groundwater treatment, either stand-alone or in combination with bioremediation. The proposed Phase I work seeks to verify the efficiency and safety of the decomposition catalysts for organics breakdown in water media, and to demonstrate compatibility and combination with a bioremediation step. The Phase I results will support subsequent scale-up and field testing to be conducted during Phase II and Phase III.
