Our objective is to improve aircraft carrier operability and safety while reducing maintenance efforts and costs. We will achieve this objective by completing development of an improved method for measuring the catapult slot width. Creare s next-generation catapult slot width measuring system uses a wireless approach and a non-contact slot width measurement to minimize size, weight, and complexity while maintaining reliability and accuracy. In Phase I, we proved that our approach is feasible by demonstrating key aspects of the system. In Phase II, we will construct a complete prototype, and conduct field tests on actual catapults. We will utilize an iterative process with multiple shipboard field trials and system enhancements. The initial proof-of-concept demonstration units will be ready for testing in the first few months of the project. Fully functional prototype testing will start during the first year and continue through the end of the project. At the end of the first year, we will deliver a prototype to the Navy for independent evaluation. During the second year, we will produce multiple systems to allow comprehensive evaluation by several Navy organizations. At the conclusion of Phase II, we will deliver several slot width measuring systems to the Navy that are qualified and ready for shipboard use.
