Abstract

Our Mobile Collaborative Air Traffic Control System (MCATS) program offers a warfighter-driven approach towards the SBIR objectives and builds on our demonstrated Phase I concept feasibility. Our team includes experience in all relevant technical areas like FAA certification, air traffic control software design, human factors, work-centered design, and manufacturing. Our Phase II approach includes an operational MCATS prototype that provides new innovative, intelligent-agent-based solutions to augment currently manual close air support, strike management, mobile air traffic control, and combat functions. Our Phase I research indicated the need for a network-centric solution in addition to core air traffic control features. Our Phase II solution includes features for mobile, real-time access to integrated 2-D/3-D air picture, terrain visualization, real-time imagery, MASINT/HUMINT data, and other intelligence data sources/services. Our Phase II architecture includes interfaces for real-time, mobile access to battle data using existing PRC-117 tactical radios and a SATCOM link. During Phase II we will demonstrate how new command and control, and intelligence data can be used to significantly enhance the operator s situational awareness.
