Abstract

This proposal describes the continuation of a Phase I program to address the most significant sources of artifacts and noise in Computed Tomography (CT) images of large solid rocket motors (SRMs). Artifacts and noise can mask the presence of defects, as well as the subtle changes in composition due to aging, that can compromise the reliability and performance of the SRMs. Additionally, artifacts may also be misinterpreted as critical SRM defects by both human analysts and automated image evaluation tools.
