Abstract

We propose to demonstrate scale-up of our process methods and establish the commercial feasibility of being a domestic (USA) supplier of ultra-high purity powders of doped YAG, and a domestic (USA) supplier of fine-grained polycrystalline doped YAG for laser host applications. We propose to demonstrate that the UES process is easy to scale at low cost and that the process yields reliable polycrystalline YAG laser host materials with optical properties nearly identical to those of single crystals. Its ease of fabrication in complex geometries makes it an ideal material of choice for solid state laser host material for use in Airborne Laser (ABL) and Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) weapons systems.
