Abstract

SDSI will create an automated multi source system to perform analysis of wireless network traffic and achieve understanding of the social networks/hierarchies employing disparate communications systems. We will target data sets available in PCS network protocols and employ novel fusion processes to derive increased understanding of networks, organizations and individuals. Analytic sources will include protocol header and control information, time domain externals, frequency domain parameters, and emitter identification parameters coupled with geo-location data and other intelligence information. The resulting solution will provide intelligence cueing and target understanding applicable to a variety of military operational requirements.BENEFITS: The completed system will be applicable to US military cryptologic and information operations requirements. This system will directly benefit current communications intelligence collection programs, improving the analytic output from high performance front ends delivered to tactical decision makers and intelligence analysts. The completed system will have application in the passive monitoring and active analysis of developing hybrid networks. For example, future planned mobile phone interfaces to wireless computer networks or switched analog walkie talkie modes available as a back up in certain commercial phones provide complex collection challenges. Development of the included social network understanding algorithm will play a useful role in situational awareness development and threat identification in a variety of anti-terrorism/force protection applications. This system is intended to be expansible to PCS networks operating in any environment. A successful program will be applicable to a wide range of security, intelligence and law enforcement customer needs.
