Abstract

The technical objectives of this SBIR proposal include the design and verification of a frangible composite ILS Glideslope Tower that does not require guy wires (i.e., will maintain existing tolerances and mission performance capabilities). ATSI s technical approach is based upon the high probability that a qualified, frangible Glideslope Tower can be designed and developed using existing/proven technologies. This will occur through first, clearly defining the necessary frangibility requirements for an ILS Glideslope Tower and generating an applicable specification; and second, using sophisticated finite element programs to model the composite materials during a dynamic impact scenario. Through these techniques, the appropriate validation of frangibility for a composite ILS Glideslope Tower can be shown.
