Abstract

Routine Air Force operations generate particulate emissions at bases around the country. Many bases are located in air quality non-attainment zones, and at these locations all air emissions are coming under increasing scrutiny. The current method to test particle mass emission from aircraft turbine engines (EPA Method 5) is not ideal, because it requires long run times and concomitant high jet fuel usage. MSP Corporation proposes a new approach to this problem, with a system designed to 1) obtain fast and accurate data on particle size distributions from turbine engines, and 2) allow real time intercomparison of these data with results from the present standard test for particle mass emissions.
