Abstract

The primary goal of this Phase II effort is to develop a cost effective replication process for high quality diffractive optical interconnect elements (DOIEs). These devices are used primarily in free space optical interconnect (FSOI) applications such as CMOS clock distribution, wide FAN-IN/FAN-OUT logic operations, and chip-to chip I/O. In addition, these DOIEs will be interfaced with optical waveguides for candidate multichip module switching architectures. The DOIEs provide the optical interconnects for between complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) smart pixel arrays. These arrays consist of integrated vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) and photodetectors on C
