KBSI proposes to develop an Intelligent Asset Tracking and Management System (IATMS) that will continuously locate, track, and manage assets across a large facility. Lack of adequate asset tracking and management is a significant problem in any MRO organization, where errors in identifying accurate information about an asset or its location can lead to a shutdown situation, potentially causing tremendous delays and huge losses. In the case of OC-ALC, asset management has enormous value because of the huge store of assets such as Ground Support Equipment and tools. The Phase I effort resulted in a unified framework for locating and managing assets, for both indoors and outdoors, by developing an innovative hybrid solution that uses multiple locating techniques and the existing low-cost wireless network infrastructure. The Phase II effort will build off the Phase I results by (i) extending and hardening the Phase I prototype, (ii) developing innovative data fusion techniques, (iii) providing knowledge discovery support, and (iv) providing optimization of asset assignments to MRO tasks. We expect the Phase II effort to be efficient and cost-effective for location identification/storage/visualization and spatio-temporal knowledge discovery not only for OC-ALC but also throughout DoD depots and MRO centers.
