Abstract

A crucial component of the Joint Battlespace Infosphere (JBI) is a collection of cooperating fuselets, simple programs or scripts that effect small transformations on data, thus transforming data into knowledge. Based on successful Phase I accomplishments, ATC-NY, in collaboration with Architecture Technology Corporation, is creating an environment for building fuselets and managing a collection of fuselets. Our fuselet development environment, called iFUSE, will automatically classify fuselets and support semantic fuselet discovery and retrieval. In addition, it will address two challenges to JBI fuselet designers that have received little attention to date: (1) how to understand the global effect of a multitude of fuselets and ensure that they are cooperating efficiently, and (2) how to incorporate run-time feedback to improve the design of individual fuselets as well as the overall information flow. Features provided by iFUSE will include wizard-based fuselet creation, semantic fuselet retrieval, fuselet slicing, and fuselet refactorization.
