This Phase 2 SBIR will develop two core technologies, small DC powered compressors and an oxygen (O2) concentrating systems to produce a Portable Oxygen Generating System (POGS). A technology review and preliminary testing indicate that development of a system to produce a flow rate of 10-15 liters/minute (LPM) of 60% O2 is achievable. This compact system will provide O2 at this flow rate for up to 1 hour using an internal battery, or continuously using any available 12-volt power source. Coupled with a small ventilator, POGS will allow a warfighter with little or no training to care for an injured buddy until definitive care or transport is available. Oxygen will significantly improve the outcome of patients with acute respiratory failure on the battlefield and during CASEVAC.
