Abstract

A series of low temperature electrolyte formulations, which exhibit high ionic conductivity, good electrochemical stability and no exothermic reactions in the presence of lithium metal, have been developed in the Phase-I effort. The Phase-II proposal is focused on the refinement of electrolyte formulations, improvement of flame-retarding characteristics and evaluation of these electrolytes in full size batteries. Two leading lithium-ion battery manufacturers have expressed strong interest in our electrolytes and will be assisting us toward the development of commercially viable low temperature flame-retarding electrolytes.
