Abstract

The goal of the project is to provide a hardware feasibility demonstration of a compact and lightweight modern power electronics incorporating advances in switching topologies, components and subsystem designs for inductive loads as to minimize the weight and power costs. The proposed system would incorporate high energization electronics to attain fast slew rates and pc/DSP user interface for simple ship deck operation such as vertical and horizontal motion of deck system goods transportation, materials handling, cargo doors and palletization/stores. The present use of switching power electronics would substantially reduce large weight and power penalties for a solid state driven linear induction and/or linear synchronous motor driven materials/cargo-handling system.
