Rydal Research proposes to develop and demonstrate the technologies and components necessary to implement a low-power high-performance optical network suitable for satellite applications that provides data rates in the range of 510 Gb/s with latencies in the sub microsecond range. The network will be based on a lightweight, efficient protocol such as Myrinet or SCI and novel networking technologies being developed by Rydal Research including low-latency switches, low-power compact receiver/clock recovery circuits, low-cost, and high-speed serializers and deserializers. Advanced modeling and simulation techniques will be used to model both the protocol and hardware in order to achieve the highest possible throughput and latency with the lowest possible size, weight, power and system cost.
