Abstract

This Phase II project is a continuation and extension of the Phase I project on the development of a real-time inertial measurement unit (IMU) simulator. In the Phase I project, a PC-based experimental IMU simulator has been developed to validate the modeling, software and hardware design of the IMU simulator. In this Phase II project, a practical IMU simulator will be designed, fabricated, tested, delivered and integrated with the 6DOF trajectory generator in the PRIMES facility at Eglin AFB. This real-time IMU simulator is based on a standard bus computing platform that consists of several off-the-shelf modules to perform computation, communication and electronic signal generation. The IMU simulator also includes a PC to provide a monitor console and an IMU-specific signal regulator to inject the electronic signal into the installed system to be tested. The major tasks of this Phase II project include simulator architecture design, IMU modeling for high fidelity simulation, hardware prototyping, real-time software design, and IMU simulator test and verification. Training and technical support will be provided to integrate the IMU simulator into the PRIMES faciltiy at Eglin AFB. The IMU simulator features modular configuration, flexible implementation and is adaptable to a wide range of applications in both the military and commercial sectors.
