Abstract

This is a Phase II proposal to fabricate and test and Eye-Safe High-Resolution Laser Radar Focal Plane Array (EHLR-FPA) receiver is th eFPA, composed of a High Resolution Laser Radar Processor (HR-LPR) - a 64 x64 array of readout unit cell electronics - hybridized withindium bumps to a detector array chip - a novel two dimensional array of custom - processed InGaAs detectors. The EHLR-FPA 3-D imaging system's importance is tht it produces a three-deminsional image of a taerget witha single laser pulse, using an eyesafe wavelength; in addition eventhough the wavelength is in the infrared (IR), the imager does not require cooling nor does it require an image tube. The custom, microlens processing of the detectors allows them to be operated at room temperature with a low dark current. A large multi-special imaging range, at room temperature operation, is potentially possible with this detector design. The HR-LRP inclues unique circuits which allows range information to be independently obtained from each detector in the array. An additional feature of the HR-LRP is that it outputs information which is used in the data processing to correct the range for variations in target reflectivity.The custom electronics to drive and display the data at a 10 Hz rate will be fabricated and combined into a 3-D imaging system using a GFE laser. The system will be both laboratory field tested.
