Abstract

The Phase I activity was to identify and develop new, low-cost high-thermal performance coating systems for composite thermal-management materials.Three materials and associated coating methods have been identified and demonstrated for application to a commercial product. The three recommended coating solutions consist of: Electrolytically - deposited Aluminum Electrolytically - deposited Nickel (with Cadmium over-plate) Electroless - deposited Nickel (with Cadmium over-plate)These selected coating systems have been systematically down-selected from a comprehensive listing of possible coating solutions, and these systems appear to successfully demonstrate the "best" performance to all identified performance, cost, etc. criteria as established in Phase I.Continuing work will further qualify these materials for specific aerospace applications.
