Abstract

Distributed computing technology is making it possible for organization to realize the long promised benefits of electronic information systems. But the low degree of security standardization available from distributed and local-computing environments inhibits this realization. To address the issues surrounding distributed systems, Secure Computing first established a process to solve the local problem in its Phase I effort. Phase I defined an Audit Local Security API and a process by which to define and implement local solutions. This Phase II proposal will extend the technology and process developed in the Phase I effort to the distributed environment. Process and implementation details will be updated to make enhancements needed to function in the distributed environment. This effort will result in the development of Local and Distributed Security APIs that establish a suite of plug and play security-related functions.
