Abstract

Photon Research Associates (PRA) proposes to implement a satellite data warehousing system based on the integration of commercial-off-the-shelf software. The objective of this project is to continue the development of a low-cost, reliable, responsive, and secure system for satellite data ingestion, management, distribution, and processing. A focus of the effort will be to address the specific challenges of warehousing gigabytes of multispectral and hyperspectral imagery.In Phase I, feasibility of automated satellite telemetry data ingestion and Internet-based data distribution was demonstrated by building a working prototype. The prototype illustrated that our proposed technology, along with the resulting reduced need for human intervention, can lower costs and increase reliability. Phase II will pursue development of a more mature system, referred to as the Tierra Station, that will be tested in both commercial and military applications.The commercial and military use of remotely sensed imagery is expected to explode; the commercial market for remote sensing is projected to increase from $550M to over $25B in the next three years. PRA's Tierra Station product will be positioned to fulfill the critical need of distributing remotely sensed data to the end user or warfighter quickly and reliably.
