Abstract

The Phase II project effort expands and completes the research and initial finding of the Phase I effort in composite, corrosion-proof, EMI/RFI shielded connector cable assemblies and waveguide assemblies. This includes finalized design of circular, RF and rectangular connector cable assemblies, and waveguide assemblies, all of innovative composite construction. Emphasis will be on circular connector cable assemblies. Material studies will be extended to ultrasonic welded composite waveguide assemblies. Phase II will encompass fabrication of prototype circular connector assemblies and waveguides made of developed composite materials assessed as viable candidates in Phase I studies. Phase II will also include accelerated environmental, mechanical and electrical/lightning testing of developed prototype circular connector assemblies and waveguides, plus shipboard installation. Design finalization will be followed by molded and machined component fabrication. This enables cable assembly construction and follow-on comprehensive testing for performance in exposure to corrosion, EMI/RFI, shock, vibration, humidity, lightning and thermal shock. Development and testing will be conducted with composite circular connector cable assemblies, and waveguide assemblies. The demonstrated evaluation and improvements will pave the way for Phase III composite connector cable assembly and waveguide assembly full production manufacturing which will address both commercial and military target applications.
