Abstract

This Phase II effort will result in the implementation and delivery of a real-time (e.g., 15 Hz or better) medium wave infrared (MWIR) image processing system, comprised of two sensors deployed in a stereo geometry, together with a high dynamic (15 Hz) version of a precision GPS/INS and a scenario-specific stereo imagery database.This self-contained integrated multisensor system (figure 16) can be utilized to aid special landing operations on non-cooperative/non-instrumented runways and terrain, under low visibility (e.g., night, warm fog). Related applications also include obstacle avoidance, terrain clearance and surveying/assessment/selection of an ad-hoc landing site.The proposed real time multisensor system will be installed and evaluated on a moving vehicle (e.g., small private aircraft). Subsequent to Phase II the effort will include installation and flight test evaluations on military aircraft (e.g., Speckled Trout) and/or helicopter.
