Abstract

High level integration of decentralized C3I systems requires distributed and networked functionality and data. Loosely coupled architectures that incorporate cooperating intelligent agent technology have advantages because of the heterogeneous mix of system types and life cycle stages involved. Integrity of the data and interactive functions in such systems are vital to their successful operation. Phase I of this project established feasibility of concepts to produce fault tolerant cooperating intelligent agent systems by combining advanced intelligent agent technology with data diverse software fault tolerance techniques and distributed object management principles and planning algorithms. In Phase II we propose to develop the fault tolerant cooperating agent technology to the maturity level of implementation of the agents, combined with data diverse fault tolerance and distributed object management techniques, to develop a prototype fault tolerant cooperating agent product set and user oriented installation tools and to evaluate the product set in a representative C3I application. The expected Phase II results apply directly to automating coordination of tasks involving heterogeneous Air Force systems and to distributed commercial processes.
