Abstract

Convergence accelerate methods and adaptive modeling approaches are employed to obtain computational efficiency improvements for both steady state and unsteady problems of interest to the propulsion community. Convergence acceleration methods include algorithmic improvements such as new relaxation methods in conjunction with preconditioning techniques. Adaptive modeling approaches include adaptive grids, wall functions, a new method to solve turbulent flows on coarse meshes, and zonal techniques. As a result, a fast Navier-Stokes solver for turbulent and chemically reacting flows will emerge, usable as a design tool in both preliminary and advanced design stages.
