Abstract

Tera Biotechnology Corporation proposes to develop very large human and mouse antibody libraries each containing at least one hundred billion unique combinations of light chains and heavy chains. These very large antibody libraries we propose to create could be used to generate antibodies of any specificity without the need for immunization. For Phase II we will develop a parallel selection process to identify specific antibodies that bind biological warfare agents and simulants. We will also create an efficient bacterial expression system for the high level production of antibody binding fragments that we have identified as being useful for the detection of biological warfare agents and simulants. BENEFITS: Antibodies cloned from the very large naive antibody library could be used in a many defense and civilian medical applications. Due to the high interest in antibody-based therapeutics and diagnostics rapid commercialization of this technology is extremely likely.
