Abstract

Eagle Eye Technologies is developing a highly reliable miniaturized transceiver tag that will permit military and civil users to accurately locate the tag using spread spectrum communications with Low Earth Orbiting satellite communications system. This effort represents a technology program providing commercialization of DoD technologies in two ways. It assists in the commercialization of miniaturized electronics developed by DoD and devlops a product with multiple DoD commercial utility. While all technical components of a complete Eagle Eye tag provide significant challenge, the area of highest risk and largest payoff is the RF front-end Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuits (MMIC) transmit/receive (T/R) and Multichip Module (MCM) packaging. This advanced technology integration holds the key for implementing our transceiver concept within the proposed footprint at reasonable production costs. In Phase I we demonstrated all transmit and receive functions (Rf to IF frequency conversion,low noise receive operation, high power transmit operation, etc.) within an MCM mounted on a specially designed test fixture. In Phase II we will expand that development to include all other tag components and prepare the necessary designs and specifications needed to fabricate a complete tag in Phase III. Benefits: Potential military applications include position location and tracking for special forces operatives, command and control of maneuver forces, search and rescue for downed pilots, logistics and personnel monitoring. Potential commercial applications include industrial cargo tracking, vehicle security, and locating lost or missing individuals such as Alzheimer's patients, back country hikers and children.
