Abstract

The Navy's Dynamic Interface (DI) Department at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), Patuxent River conducts shipboard tests to define launch and recovery envelopes for rotorcraft. Portions of these tests measure glide slope integrity and landing dispersion. To help make these measurements accurately and efficiently, Integrated Sensors, Inc. (ISI) developed a video-based sensing and processing system on SBIR Phase I contract #N006-94-C-2325. For Phase II, ISI proposes to design, build and deliver a helicopter position and attitude measurement system based on the Phase I concept. With just one camera, this system will automatically detect a helicopter as it approaches the deck of a ship and measure its full position and attitude. The system will display these measurements to the user in real-time for glide slope monitoring and landing dispersion data compilation. During the follow, Phase II Option, ISI will update the design if necessary and also support shipboard testing of the system. The Phase II effort will utilize the entire ISI team, and be lead by the Principal Investigator, Jeff Brandstadt. Jeff has extensive experience developing and fielding real-time sensing systems utilizing Kalman filter technology.
