Abstract

A novel, agile waveform coherent ladar is to be developed to provide a robust sensor capability to meet Air Force objectives. The ladar enables significant multifunctionality within the MISSIONS paradigm. The ladar operates at an eye safe solid-state wavelength in order to achieve a compact, rugged design capable of stand-off ranges of 20 km or more. Simultaneous precision range, Doppler and micro-Doppler target signatures are extracted with an extremely efficient processing architecture. Range resolution of one foot with simultaneous velocity precison better than 1mm/sec are expected. Target ID can be performed with such imagery to a relatively high degree of fidelity because of the inherent spatial scale information that it provides. Additional target pixels can be accesed through the vibration signature that can be produced with the base waveform and its higher order variants. The Phase I effort has identified a cost-effective focal plane technology development and demonstration plan that produces a significant near-term milestone of a large scale coherent array imager based on the novel agile waveform transmitter. The proposed Phase II program carries out this plan and yields ground-breaking coherent array demonstrations of direct impact to coherent ladars operating in the near infrared.
