The product resulting from this effort, InFact, fills an important gap in text analysis and information discovery, taking over where products for entity extraction like SRA's NetOwl and Inxight's Thingfinder leave off, and introducing event extraction. InFact is a superset of a search engine that incorporates keyword search, and relationships search. Insightful's approach rests on a sophisticated multivariate parameterization of text content, which enables interactive search and tracking of events across large heterogeneous document collections. Insightful validated the underlying linguistic extraction technology during Phase I, which has already seen commercial sales within the DoD. The proposed Phase II work adds event reasoning and Insightful's patented Latent Semantic Regression (LSR) to InFact. LSR has the ability uncover parallel roles and scenarios to the one being investigated, and can guide an analyst through a deeper semantic space than commercial search engines can understand today. The Phase I prototype achieves a level of information extraction and understanding that goes several steps beyond what commercial search engines achieve today. Insightful's approach does not require training, a knowledge base, nor does it have a preconceived notion of the world. As such, it has the greatest potential to discover or suggest previously unknown analogies.
