Abstract

While highly accurate 3D geospatial data is increasingly available, today s commercial products do not incorporate the complex 3D data models and computational capabilities necessary to support geospatial data analysis required by mission planners and warfighters. Without these capabilities, the Future Combat Systems (FCS) vision of fielding a Future Force this decade cannot be fully realized. The prototype will demonstrate the feasibility of an ISO 19107 compliant 3D data model incorporating 3D topology and 3D geometry operators as extensions to a commercially available relational database management system (RDBMS). With a topology builder, the user will be able to build, validate, edit, query and display volumetric 3D topology and geometry, incorporating and maintaining data from a range of sources. Implementation of these capabilities in an RDMBS will set a new standard for the industry and spur development of a range of client applications.
