Abstract

Our proposed Reconfigurable Automated Software Metrics Environment (RASME) provides a process centric toolset targeted to support program oversight and risk management through the automation of a STEP compatible software metrics approach. A strength and a unique aspect of our approach is the process centric philosophy of RASME. The process model is used to define the metrics data collection subprocess, the metrics data analyses and the metrics data graphs and correlations. One can define gating conditions under which more detailed metrics data is collected, analyzed and presented. One can also perform what-if analyses to evaluate the risks and tradeoffs among different management decisions. RASME automates key aspects of the metrics process, thus significantly reducing the metrics cycle time delays. RASME is based on the premise that capturing metrics process knowledge allows users to apply experience based proven metrics techniques to new software development programs in a cost effective manner.
