Abstract

THE FORMALISM DEVELOPED IN PHASE I WILL BE APPLIED TO A VARIETY OF IMAGING SYSTEMS, ALLOWING TRADE-OFF ANALYSES BETWEEN COMPETING PUPIL DESIGN APPROACHES. THE TECHNIQUE WILL BE EXTENDED TO INCORPORATE A BROAD RANGE OF QUADRATIC FUNCTION, OPTIMIZATION CRITERIA. THE TECHNIQUE WHICH ALLOWS SYNTHESIS OF OPTIMUM PUPIL FUNCTIONS WILL BE WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO A SYSTEMS ANALYSIS TOOL CAPABLE OF END-TO-END SYSTEM SIMULATION. APPLICATIONS WILL INCLUDE BOTH SPARSE AND SEGMENTED APERTURES WITH BOTH CONCENTRATED ENERGY AND IMAGE FIDELITY MAXIMINATION CRITERIA. SOURCE ILLUMINATION WILL INCLUDE INCOHERENT AND LASER ILLUMINATED CASES. THE EFFECTS OF PISTON, TILT, AND HIGHER ORDER ABERRATIONS WILL BE INCORPORATED IN THE TRADE-OFF ANALYSES. OPTIMUM PUPIL FUNCTIONS WILL BE DESIGNED AND EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION TECHNIQUES WILL BE ESTABLISHED.
