Abstract

The IAN Team, unique in its exceptional experience in EMP protection, materials science, microgrid development and management of industrial facilities needed by DCI, proposes to develop innovative strategies and methodologies for DCI island-mode operations in the event of power grid disruption or failure due to an EM threat. These island mode operations will be supported by advanced EMP shielding methodologies applicable to EMP-protected micro grids, communications and data centers, and digital power controllers along with applicable test methodologies that can be used to ensure EMP protected micro grid operations within one microgrid and between multiple local microgrids. The proposed approach can accelerate adoption of EM protected infrastructure across DCI facilities and their communities. An approach for linking an EMP protected microgrid at a local military installation with a protected microgrid in local community is outlined for demonstration in Phase 2
