Abstract

Agiltron will develop an innovative uncooled GHz octavespanning MWIR detector. The device is silicon-based and utilizes a unique optical-pumping-enhanced technique that significantly reduces noise at room temperature while increases the absorption of MWIR photons. This enables the detector to operate at non-cryogenic temperatures and achieve high signal-to-noise ratio. Silicon-based architecture enables the detectors to operate at GHz and greater speeds and to be fabricated into uniform arrays. The Silicon architecture and uncooled operation significantly reduces the total cost, size, weight, and power of these detectors. Arrays of these detectors can be utilized as part of MWIR spectroscopy to take advantage of MWIR signature phenomenology. The program goal is to design and develop uncooled Silicon-Based MWIR detectors that will significantly outperform the current state-of-the-art uncooled MWIR detectors and rival the performance of current state-of-the-art cryogenic MWIR detectors.
