Abstract

Eskra Technical Products, Inc. (ETP) developed a bipolar lead acid battery concept that demonstrated 100 Wh/kg at the cell level. This proposal is directed at the development of a battery module which will meet the rugged military specification necessary for use in tanks and other heavy duty vehicles. ETP eliminated the use of lead grids and lead intercell connectors to further reduce weight and improve calendar life. It will further the valve regulated technology by improving on the totally sealed cell concept by applying its proprietary know how in bipolar development. A successful development will allow the lead acid technology to compete directly with lithium ion systems on a weight and volume basis without the inherent safety issues of that technology.
