Abstract

THIS PROJECT WILL BUILD ON ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF PHASE I EFFORTE PLUS SPONSORED PROGRAMS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM WILL BE TO FABRICATE A REPRESENTATIVE COMPOSITE ROTOR BLADE SPAR BEAM WITH THERMOPLASTICCS USING AUTOMATED DYNAMIC'S PROCESS FOR ROBOTIC FIBER PLACEMENT. THE TECHNICAL OBJECTIVES ARE TO DEVELOP AND IMPROVE THE ROBOTIC WINDING SYSTEM (ROWS) TECHNIQUE TO WELD GR/PEEK. THE OBJECTIVES ARE DIVIDED INTO THREE (3) CATEGORIES: 1. HARDWARE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE THERMOPLASTIC WELDING SYSTEM TO FABRICATE A TEN (10) FOOT SPECIMEN. 2. PROCESS DEVELOPMENT TO ESTABLISH THE PROCESSING CRITERIA AND TO PREDICT SUCCESSFUL FABRICATION OF THE ROTOR SPAR SPECIMENS. 3. FABRICATE THREE (3) ARTICLES FOR GOVERNMENT TESTING AND EVALUATION.
