Abstract

ABSTRACT:Many attempts have been made to replace electro-deposited chromium applied to internal surfaces of gun barrels. Patented EPVD? process has been bench-marked by DOD programs as a fit substitute. The purpose of this activity is to design both small caliber and large caliber automated EPVD? Prototype LRIP (Limited Rate Initial Production) Coating Machines and associated Technical Data Packages (TDPs).This activity is intended to generate the necessary data for commercialization efforts on construction and commissioning of EPVD? Production Coating Machines and integration of the EPVD? coating process to effectively substitute currently employed electro-plating.BENEFIT:AGS intends to work together with the North American gun makers of small and large caliber weapons, end-users and their qualified contractors during the commercialization stage as well as post commercialization activities to properly expedite and implement its developed coating systems. Successful implementation of the EPVD? process in the military sector will allow new applications in other industrial areas such as nuclear, oil, gas and petrochemical sectors where tubulars require erosion, corrosion and high temperature protection.
