Abstract

Cornerstone Research Group will use topology optimization and multi-disciplinary design, analysis, and optimization (MDAO) techniques to develop a tool which will allow for the design of cellular structures for missile components that avoid specific natural frequencies. The tool will leverage commercial finite element analysis (FEA) software to mitigate integration challenges reduce implementation lead time. During Phase I, CRG will prototype the optimized structure based on the results from the toolset and experimentally assess the dynamic properties for comparison against the theoretical model. Results from the experimental analysis will help refine the toolset for increased accuracy.
