Abstract

This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II effort proposes to extend research conducted under the initial Army Phase II project to demonstrate a multi-beam ultraviolet (UV) transceiver system that employs cutting edge optical technology elements and algorithms. In this context, Imaging Systems Technology (IST) will utilize UV communication knowledge and experience gained through the initial Phase II project to develop a new UV transceiver module demonstrating: (1) a steerable UV emitter covering a full 360? field-of-view to minimize transmit power; (2) a flexible network interface to allow easy integration with a variety of portable devices; and (3) a module with reduced size, weight, and power (SWAP) requirements. Several transceiver modules will be fabricated and tested in a mobile ad-hoc network configuration to establish performance specifications and to demonstrate UV networking for medical applications.
