Abstract

TIPD LLC proposes to develop a diode-pumped, Q-switched narrow spectral-linewidth (<0.1 nm) blue laser system capable of producing<20 nanosecond pulses with pulse energy>15 mJ at a repetition rate of 1 kHz for the detection of underwater objects. The blue laser is achieved by intracavity frequency doubling of a laser oscillator operating at a wavelength below 1 micron. The advantages of this laser system include high efficiency, high compactness, and power scalability. In this phase I program, we will focus on the demonstration of this new type of Q-switched laser oscillator operating below 1 micron and high efficiency second harmonic generation of the blue laser. Modeling and design of the whole laser system will be carried out as well.
