Abstract

THE OVERALL GOAL OF THIS PHASE II IS TO FINISH AND ENHANCE THE OPTIMAL MANEUVERING REENTRY BODY (MaRB) SHAPE DESIGN SOFTWARE PACKAGE. THIS SOFTWARE WILL HELP THE NAVY ACRO-SHAPE ENGINEER DESIGN OPTIMAL MaRB SHAPES ACCORDING TO SEVERAL USER SELECTED DESIGN CRITERIA. THIS SOFTWARE WILL INCORPORATE COMPUTER AIDED GEOMETRY, NEW FREE-FORM DEFORMATION (FFD) METHODOLOGIES, HYPERSONIC AERODYNAMICS WITH BLUNTNESS AND VISCOUS EFFECTS AS WELL AS AEROHEAT/ABLATION, GLOBAL OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHMS AND INTERNAL COMPONENT PACKAGING. DESIGN CRITERIA MAY BE SELECTED FROM SYSTEM MASS PROPERTIES, INTERNAL COMPONENT PACKAGING, HYPERSONIC AERODYNAMICS (CENTER OF PRESSURE, LIFT, DRAG, MAXIMUM LIFT TO DRAG RATIO, FORCE AND MOMENT COEFFICIENTS).
